Postponement of Community Council Induction Events - Saturday 26 and Monday 28 April 2025
You may be aware, sadly Councillor Val Walker has unexpectedly passed away. Cllr Walker represented the residents of Fountainbridge and Craiglockhart with great passion and diligence and was a huge champion of our cultural and community services. In her role of convenor of the Culture and Communities Committee, she was a huge advocate and supporter of community councils.
Cllr Walker was due to play a significant part in the induction events planned for Saturday 26 and Monday 28 April, welcoming you to your new roles and sharing some of her own anecdotes of the successes of community councils. We have made the difficult decision to postpone these events in light of her passing.
We have already been in touch with the EACC on our decision. In tribute, the EACC recorded: "She has been a warm, understanding and sincere support to the city's community councils and to EACC. We have been the better for the lead she gave us."
We understand this will be disappointing news for those of you who were due to attend, however we will look to reschedule and will be in touch with further arrangements in due course
