We’re extremely proud that Edinburgh is a diverse, welcoming city where people from different backgrounds get on well together, says Councillor Cammy Day.
The shameful riots and disorder we’ve seen in other parts of the UK over the past week – fuelled by racists and those intent on causing fear and division – have strengthened our will to preserve the great community spirit and resilience we enjoy across our capital city.
Together with the Lord Provost, I was proud to add my name to a joint statement published by the Edinburgh Interfaith Association, condemning the actions of extremist groups, supporting those affected and appealing to the public not to share speculation or inaccurate information on social media.
Thankfully, there’s currently no intelligence to suggest we’re facing increased tensions here in Edinburgh, but we want everyone to feel reassured and safe and I’m grateful to Police Scotland for reaching out to our communities and allaying any fears.
We’ve created a dedicated page on the Council website, offering the latest advice and support to our residents and businesses. Please contact us, or the Police, immediately if you have any concerns.
